Jnanpith awardee and renowned Kannada writer UR Ananthamurthy passed away this evening at a Bangalore hospital where he was undergoing treatment for kidney infection and fever, news channel NDTV reported.
Eighty two-year-old Murthy was admitted 10 days ago, and his condition deteriorated further. Hospital authorities were closely monitoring his condition and he was put on multiple support system including dialysis, support for blood pressure, antibiotics for infection, and other measures, Manipal Hospital Medical Director & Chairman – Medical Advisory Board H Sudarshan Ballal had said.
“…Ananthamurthy has been unwell for a while, he had multiple problems including kidney disease for which he had been on dialysis for the last few years…,” Ballal said.
He said Ananthamurthy was hospitalised with an infection and “his condition has deteriorated in the last day or so.”
Despite his kidney ailment, Ananthamurthy was very much active both physically and mentally including extensive travelling and took up lot of assignments but in the last 10 to 15 days his condition worsened “to some extent”, he said.
