RSS article row: Writer Gopalakrishnan claims he was misquoted

New Delhi: Writer B Gopalakrishnan, whose article on Nathuram Godse in the RSS mouthpiece ‘Kesari’ has created a political storm, defended his writing here on Saturday by saying that he had been misquoted by the Congress and the Left.
“I had collected all the quotations and I wrote the article. Unfortunately, my article has been misinterpreted by the Left Party and the Congress. Many of them interpreted my article without reading it fully. There are two parts and they have shown only the second part,” Gopalakrishnan told ANI here.

Gopalakrishnan had reportedly hinted in his article that Nathuram Godse should have targetted Jawaharlal Nehru instead of Mahatma Gandhi for the partition of the country. This had led to reactions of outrage from Congress leaders.

Congress leader Anand Sharma said, “It shows their belief is in violence, hatred and elimination of those with whom they disagree. Have we come to a stage where RSS will rewrite history, why is BJP silent? Both RSS chief and BJP president must come clean on this.”

Gopalakrishnan, however, added that he stood by the article and was also ready to face any kind of legal action.

“I am still with the article. I wrote it absolutely honestly. We will face any legal actions, we don’t mind because this is the ideological divide. If the Congress is not ready for the ideological debate and if they threaten me by police or law, we are ready to face it. This is the real down position of Congress, because Congress is not ready to debate with us. Ideological debate is necessary for this matter,” said Gopalakrishnan.
