New Delhi: The Former prime minister Manmohan Singh had a different take on the expose’ of the former Gandhi loyalist, Natwar Singh who had to resign from the Congress-led coalition government in 2005 after allegations of corruption.

Natwar Singh had alleged in interviews to promote his book,”One life is not enough”,  extracts of which are expected in the forthcoming issue of India Today, that Government Files were carried to Sonia Gandhi through the Prime minister’s principal secretary Pulok Chatterjee. Natwar Singh, also described her as “secretive” and “authoritarian” in the interviews he has given primarily to Karan Thapar on Headlines today.

Natwar Singh had also alleged that Sonia Gandhi had declined to become Prime Minister, not from a sense of altruism, or the echo of her inner voice as she had stated, but because her son Rahul was adamant that she should not as he was worried about her safety.

He says that in May 2004, he attended a meeting where Mrs. Gandhi’s daughter Priyanka conveyed Rahul’s strong opinion against her becoming PM. Natwar Singh says others at the meeting included Dr Manmohan Singh and Gandhi family friend Suman Dubey.

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today asserted that no government file was sent to Sonia Gandhi. He also said that “private conversations should not be misused for capital gains”,

On the other hand, Sonia Gandhi defending herself said “I will write my own book and then everyone will know the truth,”. “The only way the truth will come out is if I write. I am serious about this,” she said.
