Thiruvananthapuram: Four water sports athlete at Sports Authority of India (SAI) hostel attempted suicide after allegedly being harassed by a trainer in Kerala, a report said on Thursday.
One of the students, a 15-year-old girl, has died and the other three are in critical condition. Reportedly it is said that all four girls reportedly consumed a poisonous fruit after being reprimanded by the trainer.
It was on Wednesday night that the girls were found poisoned in the SAI hostel. They were rushed to the General Hospital and then to Medical College Hospital.
According to reports, students took the extreme step as they couldn’t bear the humiliation by the trainer after they were found in an inebriated state. There are also reports that claim that they had been ragged by the seniors in the hostel.
One of them had won a gold medal in Kayak event during the National Games, which took place this year.The Kerala Police has filed a case and a probe is underway.
Sources reveal that the Sports ministry is concerned about what has happened and has ordered a high level enquire. The trainer might be suspended during the enquiry.
It is also known that the enquiry to be attended by the retired High Court judge.
