Navjot Singh Sidhu’s convoy attacked in Jammu

Jammu: In Jammu, the convoy of Navjot Singh Sidhu, former cricketer and BJP leader, was attacked with stones today. He is reported to be safe. Mr Sidhu was present in the area to campaign for the BJP. Voting in Jammu and Kashmir ends on Saturday. Results will be declared on Tuesday.

The BJP is making what is being seen as its first serious claim for India’s only Muslim-majority state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has campaigned extensively in Jammu and Kashmir, where people have voted in record numbers, ignoring a boycott call by separatists and freezing temperatures.

In the midst of the five phases of voting, there were a series of terror attacks, the most severe of which saw a suicide strike at an army camp in the border town of Uri in the Jammu region.
