New Delhi: In probably the most bizarre statement made about the Delhi Assembly Election 2015, former chairman of the Press Council of India justice Markandey Katju has said that BJP should have made Shazia Ilmi their CM candidate because she is more beautiful than Kiran Bedi.
Yes, you heard that right. In a Facebook post, Katju made this statement, offending women, Croatians and politicians all at the same time.
Probably realising a bit later that the post was not a good idea and sensing the kind of criticism he would get, Katju posted yet another Facebook post, asking them to “develop a sense of humour”.
This, however, is not the first time justice Katju made an absurd statement. From calling a majority of his countrymen idiots to declarations on various other subjects, justice Katju has shown himself to have firm and controversial opinions on virtually any matter.
On 26 December 2014, Katju put up a long post on Facebook, saying that “a woman has to get hold of a man, not merely to make her pregnant, but also to look after her and provide for her financially while she is performing this role”.
“Women who remain single are prone to have psychological problems,” said Katju in that post. He had also said that gay relationships and gay marriages were “all humbug and nonsense”.
