Amit Shah: Choice of Kiran Bedi as CM-pick was strategic

New Delhi: With just over a week left for the Delhi polls and with BJP moving in to expose the perceived vulnerabilities of Arvind Kejriwal, party chief Amit Shah claimed in an exclusive interview to a newspaper said that the voters of the Delhi have seen through AAP chief and his deception, and would not be taken in by his “populist and extravagant promises”.

The comment came amidst a growing perception that the race in Delhi has tightened, blunting the edge that the saffron outfit appeared to have after sweeping all seven Lok Sabha seats in the city last May.

BJP’s decision to project Kiran Bedi as its CM candidate has been widely attributed to the resurgence of AAP as well as BJP’s weakness in finding a leader matching up to Kejriwal from its own ranks.

Reportedly, earlier, around 11 Union ministers and three senior party functionaries were to be unleashed to help the party’s campaign. Shah said the projection of Bedi was influenced by “strategic considerations”. He said her record in fighting crime and corruption would work to BJP’s advantage. But he said BJP is not centered on a personality; it works “with a galaxy of leaders with PM Modi at the forefront.”
