12 killed as train rams into vehicle in Hisar

Hisar: Twelve members of a family, including five women and four children, were killed and three others injured when the vehicle they were travelling in was hit by Dhuri-Sirsa passenger train at an unmanned rail crossing along the Chandigarh-Hisar road near Sarsod village in Barwala subdivision of Hisar district on Monday.

The victims hailed from Balak village and were going to Panghal village to attend a religious function when the mishap took place at 9:15 am.

Barwala DSP Rajbir Singh said six persons were killed on the spot while six others succumbed to their injuries on the way to the hospital.

The driver of the transport vehicle was among those killed, police said.

The three injured, who were also travelling in the Tata Magic vehicle, have been admitted to the Civil Hospital in Hisar.

Those killed in the mishap have been identified as Bajrang (31), his wife Kavita (26) and their sons Pritam (2) and Deepak (4), Pooja (26), his daughter Nandini (2), Sanjiv, Sunita, Anita, Keshav (3) Kiran and another unknown person. Three injured are Anil, Nitin and Navneet.

Low visibility due to fog is stated to be the possible reason for the mishap, police said.
