Hubballi: South-Western Railway (SWR) General Manager A K Gupta has stated that the SWR had achieved an impressive growth during the previous financial year.
While speaking at 71st Independence Day celebration at the Railway Sports ground in Hubballi, Gupta said in the current year, 250 kms of doubling and new lines were targeted for commissioning.
“It has loaded 44.2 million tonne of freight, which is 5 percent more compared to the load in 2015-16 and carried more than 192.6 million passengers, which is 2 percent more as against the numbers in 2015-16. The punctuality of the SWR is 96 percent, which is one of the best in Indian Railways,” he added.
He said with the sincere and dedicated efforts of the staff and officers, the SWR had achieved an unprecedented success in 2016-17 financial year.
“This Independence Day was also observed as ‘Sankalp Parva,’ the day to resolve to transform India. This was launched by the prime minister to ignite transformation for creating a nation that all Indians would be proud of,” he said.
Railway School students and the employees gave colourful cultural programmes on the occasion.
