Hubballi: A young girl from Hubballi is all set to receive the bravery award from Prime Minister of India. For ten-year-old Siya Vamansa Khode, she did what it took to save her brother at that point of time and her presence of mind has brought her the National Bravery Awards, instituted by the Indian Council for Child Welfare (ICCW). The formal award ceremony will be held on January 23 during which Prime Minister Narendra Modi will bestow the award on her and others in presence of President Pranab Mukherjee. Siya will be one of the 25 children to take part in the Republic Day parade in New Delhi.

Siya was enjoying her summer vacations, playing with her four-year-old brother and cousins when one day her brother came in touch with a live-wire, at her uncle’s residence in Hubballi. Instantly understanding what may have happened to her brother and also understanding that even she would also be electrocuted if she touched him directly, Siya tried to pull her brother’s shirt. After one failed attempt, Siya succeeded in pulling him in the second attempt.

After her brother fell unconscious, Siya screamed for help and thus the boy was saved. This act of bravery has bagged Siya the award and she completely deserved it.

Siya, a Class VII student at Sri Jagatguru Gangadhar High School wants to join the Indian Army.
