Hubballi: Senior Congress leader and AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh has said that Lingayaths, the dominant community in Karnataka are with the Congress party and the recent by-polls in Nanjangud and Gundulpet have proven it.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of his visit to Hubballi here on Tuesday, Digvijay Singh alleged that while BJP believed in cast politics, the Congress thought of each and every community.
He said the next Assembly elections in the state would be fought under the leadership of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, however the CM candidate would be finalised at the party legislators’ meet, he clarified.
Reacting to a query, “We as a party are united. KPCC President G Parameshwara will continue in his post till the conclusion of Assembly elections in 2018,” he clarified.
Expressing joy over success in the by-polls, Digvijay Singh attributed the victory to the collective leadership of the party.
While trying to clear the air, Singh said, “BJP leaders are alleging that I am anti-Hindu but I have never ever spoken against any matt or religions leaders. However, I am against RSS and their ideology, which are responsible for the ongoing communal outrage in some parts of the country.”
While slamming the BJP-PDM coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir, the senior Congress leader said their unholy coalition was responsible for the violent situation in the valley. The UPA government in the past had maintained peace in Kashmir valley, during its tenure at the Centre, he said while hinting that the party was expected to urge the President to impose Presidential Rule in the State to bring back normalcy.
