Hubballi: Samaja Parivarthane Samudaya (SPS) Founder President S R Hiremath has demanded the resignation of Revenue Minister Kagodu Thimmappa, in the backdrop of government’s proposed move to amend the Karnataka Land Revenue Act, 1964 (Section 68) to annul the right of the public on tanks and ponds that have lost the characteristics of water bodies.

Speaking to reporters in Hubballi, Hiremath said the Cabinet note prepared by the Revenue Department to annul public right over dried up water bodies was opposed by the RDPR Department, which said that this move may lead to development of unauthorised layouts.

He demanded that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah should drop him from the Cabinet along with the proposed move.

Hiremath doubted that the agenda of vested interests and land mafia seemed to be there behind this move.

Conference

The third State-level conference of the Jan Sangram Parishath (JSP) would be held in Davangere on September 26 and 27 on the theme “Agrarian crisis and the way forward”, which would be addressed by freedom fighter H S Doreswamy, former Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde and others, he said while asking leaders of BJP, Congress and JD(S) to participate in the debate.
