Hubballi: The members of district JD (S) who held a protest here demanding fulfillment of various demands have asked the state government to cater to the needs of the people of North Karnataka region.
After a protest rally, the JD (S) members who submitted a memorandum to the chief minister through the tahsildar alleged that government agencies were not responding to people’s problems.
Their demands include improvements in law and order situation and traffic management, checking increasing crime rate, implementation of Kalasa-Banduri project, allotment of Ashraya houses to the poor and proper distribution of food grains under the public distribution system among others.
Addressing the protesters, MLC Basavaraj Horatti said State JD (S) President H D Kumaraswamy had already given a call to protest against sand mafia. If the demands are not met, protest will be intensified, he warned.
The protesters demanded the government to instruct the officials concerned to complete the BRTS works soon, since it was causing traffic menace in twin cities.
Both the State and the Centre must take steps to resolve inter-state water dispute through talks and implement Kalasa-Banduri project immediately which was expected to cater to the people of four districts, they added.
