Hubballi: Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition in Assembly Jagadish Shettar has said that Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi should have visited the flood-affected areas of Bengaluru instead of inaugurating Indira Canteens, to understand the four years of development works undertaken by the Congress government.
Speaking to media persons after inaugurating Prime Minister Bharatiya Jan Aushadhi Kendra, along with Dharwad MP Pralhad Joshi in Old Hubballi, he said, the government led by Siddaramaiah had been claiming that in the last four years, it had spent thousands of crores of rupees for the development of Bengaluru.
‘This is their development, Bengaluru cannot withstand one heavy rainfall’ he said adding that the government failed to clear storm water drains (SWDs) of encroachments.
He also said the government last year cleared buildings of poor people who had encroached SWDs, while it could touch the rich and might, he said.
Calling the Indira Canteen project a poll gimmick of the Congress party, Mr Shettar questioned as to why the government did not start the same in its first year. Only now, they are worried about the poor as elections are fast approaching.
