Hubballi Police recover unaccounted cash of Rs. 60 lakh; arrest 2

Hubballi: The Hubballi Keshwapur Police have recovered Rs. 60 Lakh unaccounted money with Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 denominations, which was being illegally transported by two persons in the wee hours on Monday.

Based on a tip off, the police team acted swiftly and waylaid a Scorpio vehicle near St. John’s Church at 5.20 am on Gadag Road.

During the inquiry, the accused Srinivasmurthy N and Praveenkumar Jain of Hospet failed to give a proper explanation and produce documents regarding the money. While Srinivasmurthy is a vegetable vendor, Praveenkumar sells electrical goods in Hospet.

The money was being taken to Hospet from Hubballi when they were arrested by the police. The vehicle used for transportation of money has been seized. Inquiry is on to ascertain the source of the money, police said.

A case has been registered with Keshwapur Police station in this regard.

This big catch by the Police is first ever case related to illegal money transportation, after the Narendra Modi government announced demonetisation of high value currency.
