Dharwad: The Karnataka Rajya Dalita Sanghatane Co-ordination Samiti (KRDSCS) has urged the State Government to implement the Justice A J Sadashiva Commission report providing internal reservation among the Schedules Castes (SCs).

The commission, which looked into methods of equitable distribution of reservation facilities among SCs, has recommended internal reservation among the castes by broadly reclassifying all the 101 castes into four groups based on their population strength.

KRDSCS State Convener D G Sagar speaking to media in Dharwad stated that social and gender discrimination is still seen in society even after seven decades of independence.

The people belonging to the SC are yet to come to the mainstream of the society and become socially, politically, financially, and educationally empowered, he added.

Though Dr B R Ambedkar had introduced reservation policy for a period of 10 years hoping that after a decade of independence, the caste system would be abolished in India and equality would be created, the power-hungry class kept alive this inequality depriving the SCs of their legitimate rights, he said.

In 2000, the SCs pitched their voice against the injustice meted out to them and accordingly, the then State Government formed Justice Sadashiv Commission to provide internal reservation for them.

After conducting a survey and studying the socio-economic status of the 101 SC castes, the commission had submitted a report to the government recommending internal reservation. Due to lack of like-mindedness, the successive governments have not implemented the report and it is catching dust, lamented Dr Sagar.

Some of the castes in SC namely Madiga Dandora, Waddar, Lambanis and others have been opposing Sadashiv Commission as they fear the reservation percentage for them would dip down, he alleged.
