Hubballi: Keshwapur Police here have arrested a gang of four persons who had robbed two persons of Rs. 12 Lakh while they were taking the money to a merchant’s house on December 8 in Hubballi.

The arrested have been identified as Akash Pai, Sanjeev, Mallikarjun and Prakash Vernekar, all residents of Hubballi.

The two workers of the provision shop belonging to Ramesh Bafna, were taking Rs. 12 Lakh in a bag to their owner’s house on a two-wheeler on the night of December 8. They were waylaid at Sarvodaya Circle by two persons and when the bike was not stopped, they pulled down the pillion rider thus bringing the two-wheeler to a halt. The moment they fell down, the culprits had manhandled them before taking away the money on a Pulsar bike.

A case was registered with Keshwapur police station in this regard.

The loot was partly shared between four people in a house in Budarsingi area and the rest of the amount was kept in the same location. They had toured Kolhapur, Goa and Miraj, before coming back to Budarsingi to take the remaining amount, when they were arrested.

Police have recovered Rs. 9,22,000 cash, a bike used for the act, a knife and a mobile phone from them.

One of the arrested Akash Pai who had earlier worked at Bafna’s shop had hatched the conspiracy to loot the money with the help of others, Police Commissioner Pandurang Rane said.
