Hubballi: The members of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) are set to hold a massive protest in Bengaluru on September 14, against the anti-labour policies of the Union and the State governments.
Briefing media persons, CITU State unit Secretary K. Mahantesh said, in January this year the members of CITU had staged three days day-and-night protest demanding increasing of minimum wages to Rs. 18,000. Though the protest was withdrawan following the assurance of Chief Minister, but so far the government has not taken a single step in this regard, he said.
He said the move of Centre to privatise railway station, bus stands and other public places will prove detrimental to the prospects of working class people. Opposing all these moves and demanding job security, basic facilities and other benefits, around one lakh workers of both organised and unorganised sector will stage protest in Bengaluru, he said.
He urged the State government to follow the Kerala model of providing minimum wages of Rs. 600 per day to labourers and equal pay for equal work. He termed the Union government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as anti-labour, as his government intends to do away with 44 labour laws that protect the interest of the workers.
