Hubballi: While riding without a helmet is a punishable offense and attracts a penalty, a Huballi policeman seems to have extended this rule to cab drivers too.
The traffic constable, attached to the Huballi North Traffic police station fined a cab driver Rs 100 for not wearing a helmet while going about his business.
The incident occurred on October 7, when the cab driver Naveen was stopped by the constable demanding to see his documents. Reportedly, the cop demanded Rs 500 from Naveen, who drives for an app-based cab company that ensures all the documents are in place. When the cabbie refused to pay the cop drew a challan of Rs 100 asking Naveen to pay the fine for not wearing a helmet.
On being questioned about the absurd reason behind the penalty, the cop started abusing him, said Naveen.
Meanwhile Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner M N Nagaraj has assured that he will look into the incident.
