Hubballi: Members of Gauri Lankesh Hatya Veerodhi Horata Vedike (Hubballi) staged a protest in the premises of Mini Vidhana Soudha in Hubballi, demanding early arrest of killers and those who were directly or indirectly involved in the case.
Condemning the heinous killing of journalist-activist Gauri Lankesh, the members charged that even after 13 days of the killing, the investigating officials were not able to trace the assailants in spite of getting clues from CCTV cameras installed in front of her house.
They said the government’s intention should not be just limited to arresting the killers, but nabbing all those involved in the crime. The protesters said Gauri was working towards bringing brotherhood and her stand was pluralism in the society. However, those who opposed her stand killed her, the added.
“Only fools can believe that shooting a person in the head would result in the death of someone’s ideas and ideologies. Bullet pumped in the heart would not dampen the spirit of free thinkers and rationalists,” they said and added that from Gandhi to Gauri, people from one ideology have been killing persons opposed to it.
Taking all these into consideration, the government should speed up the SIT and CID investigations into both the cases of Gauri and M M Kalburagi killings, and put an to the murder culture in the state, they demanded.
Vedike members Amruth Ijare, Basir Mudhol, Mahesh Pattar, N A Khaji and others were present.
