The H1N1 influenza, is making news again this year, and of course, for all the wrong reasons. 2017 has already recorded 230 lives lost to this deadly disease in Maharashtra.

Swine flu, a respiratory disease caused by influenza viruses such as H1N1 and H3N2v, was observed as a pandemic for the first time in Mexico, in 2009.

The Symptoms And The Warning Signs

Swine flu can be a tricky thing to diagnose because its symptoms are similar to those of any other regular flu. If you have indeed contracted this disease, it is most likely that you’ll have the chills, a high fever, a painful cough, a sore throat, a runny or blocked nose, severe body aches, unusual fatigue and weakness, diarrhea, and possible nausea and vomiting.

The H3N2v flu, swine flu, is famous for being contagious. You could spread it by sneezing, coughing, or by touching germ-covered surfaces and then touching your eyes and nose. If you cook your pork well, you don’t have to worry about catching the disease from pigs.

Warning Signs For Adults:

Definitely consider seeing a doctor if:

you have difficulties in breathing or shortness of breath
your chest or abdomen hurts or feels abnormal pressure
you suddenly feel dizzy every now and then
you feel consistently dazed and confused
you haven’t stopped throwing up
your fever and cough temporarily disappears after normal treatment and then comes back again

Warning Signs For Children And Infants:

It is time to see a medical professional if:

your child is breathing too fast
your child’s skin is changing to a bluish color
you child has trouble waking up in the mornings
your child is irritable and often cries without tears
your child has a fever with a rash and no appetite

Prevention Is Better Than Cure

You may not be able to perfectly shield yourself from the swine flu, but there are some simple things you can do to take good care of yourself during an outbreak:

Get an H1N1 vaccine (especially true for young children and pregnant women)
Wear a face mask, but not the same one twice
Wash your hands well and more frequently now
Keep your home and your surroundings spotless clean
Stay home if you have been down with fever for more than 24 hours
Stay away from people who are ill with the flu

Home Remedies To The Rescue

The swine flu is a versatile and adaptable virus and it can sometimes develop a resistance toward antiviral drugs available at clinics. Ease the symptoms of flu at home with these quick tips,

Take 5 washed Tulsi/Basil leaves every morning
Drink a concoction made of Giloi and Tulsi leaves in water
Swallow Camphor tablets
Start your morning with two pods of garlic everyday
Gulp a glass of warm milk with turmeric every night
Apply natural Aloe vera gel on your skin to relieve body aches
Exercise as much as you can daily
Indulge in citrus fruits that are high on Vitamin C
