Hassan: Sipping onto a tender coconut on a hot and sultry day is definitely bound to refresh you. But those looking for a change of taste in this health drink need not look beyond for other options as it will soon be available in different flavors like lime, honey etc.
This flavored natural beverage will be up for sale at the “hut”, made entirely from parts of a coconut tree which will soon come up on the border of the Hirisave village on the national highway connecting Bengaluru and Mangaluru via Hassan thanks to the plan mooted by the Hassan district administration.
Reportedly, the “hut” named as Kalpamrutha may open about three months prior to the Mahamastakabhisheka of the Bahubali statue in February, 2018 to cash in on the large influx of visitors to Shravanabelagola, a popular Jain pilgrim centre in Hassan. Besides the flavored drinks these huts will also be selling various coconut related products
Depending on the success of this venture, the district administration would contemplate opening more “huts” in other parts of the district which will also give a chance for the coconut growers to sell their produce directly without relying on middlemen.
