ICC Celebrates Qatar National Environment Day

Qatar: Indian Cultural centre and its affiliated organisations have Celebrated Qatar National Environment Day on 26th February 2015 at Doha-Qatar under patronage of Qatar Environment Ministry and Indian Embassy in Qatar.

 Indian Ambassador HE Sanjiv Arora inaugurated the march-fast along with other officials from Qatar Environment Ministry. The march-fast was conducted by various organisations with the slogan “My Environment My Responsibility” under ICC banner conducted along Doha-Corniche Street.

A grand celebration was held at Diplomatic club that evenings to award the winners of competitions held and appreciate all the participants.

ICC president Girish Kumar welcomed the gathering at the Diplomatic Club. Speaking on the occasion, Girish Kumar said that Qatar is the second home for Indians; therefore the theme of the campaign “My Environment My Responsibility” is very important for the entire community.

He also mentioned that the 45-Days campaign covered 149 activities with whole hearted cooperation and with the utmost dedication of participants from ICC-affiliated organisations like Karnataka Sangha Qatar, Tulukoota Qatar, Mangalore Cricket Club, Sanskriti Qatar, Indian Institute of Quantity surveyor, Maharastra Mandal Qatar, Qatar Tamizhar Sangam, Millenium Kids, Qatar Mahe association, Kerala Social and cultural association, South Canara Muslim Cultural Association, Gujarathi Samaj Qatar, Samanvyam, Indian Doctors Club, and Indian schools like Birla Public School, Delhi Public School, Shanthiniketan Indian School, MES Indian school, Bhavan’s Public school, and Doha Modern Indian School.

Qatar Environmental Minister HE Ahmed Amer Mohamed al-Humaidi appreciated the Indian community and the ICC for the successful Environment Day Campaigns and competitions, especially the green march held on the Doha Corniche on Thursday. He also acknowledged that this was the first time in the history of Qatar that an expatriate community was taking the lead in motivating people on environmental campaigns as part of the Qatar National Environment Day celebrations.

Second Secretary and ICC coordinating Officer Suneel Tapiliyal were present during the ceremony and he read out the message of the Indian Ambassador. Prof. Rajashekaran Pillai presented the keynote address on Environment Protection.

Civil and Environmental Engineer and head of Judges for the ICC’s competition Eiman Al Marrouqi announced the results. Karnataka Sangha Qatar secured the first prize with MOE Minister Rolling Trophy for its well organised Environment Awareness campaigns throughout Qatar, followed by Tulukoota winning the Ambassador’s Rolling Trophy. DPS-MIS school were the winner in the competition held among teachers of Indian Schools.

A cultural program by Indian School Children highlighting environment awareness was presented at the concluding session headed by ICC cultural Activities head Jayanthi Mitra.

ICC vice president Seenu Pillai coordinated the grand Finale and the 45-Days environment Day Campaign with the help of ICC Management committee. ICC general secretary Divakar Poojary compered the programme, while Pallash Das proposed the vote of thanks.
