Dubai: Two women and a seven-year-old girl died after their 4WD vehicle spun out of control and landed on the opposite side of the road, where a truck crashed into it. The accident was reported on Hatta road on Sunday afternoon.
According to Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, Director of the General Department of Traffic of the Dubai Police, the two women were sitting in the front of the vehicle, while the girl and another woman were in the back.
On being notified about the accident, the Dubai Police dispatched traffic patrols and paramedics to the site. All four were rushed to the nearest hospital, where two women and the child died, while the third woman is recuperating in a critical state.
According to Brigadier Omer Mohammed Al Shamsi, Deputy Director of the Dubai Police’s Operations Room, most of the accidents were minor.
Al Shamsi said most of the accidents happened between 6am and 2pm “as motorists failed to adjust their driving to suit the weather conditions”.
He said the Command and Control Room received 87 accident reports yesterday, including that of a pickup vehicle turning turtle on Shaikh Zayed road towards Abu Dhabi at 7.50am. The driver sustained minor injuries in the accident. On the same stretch near the Seeh Shubaib interchange, two persons were injured in another accident.
In the direction towards Abu Dhabi on the road, a 10-car pileup accident was reported, while in the opposite direction a five-car pileup took place as motorists struggled to drive in the foggy conditions.
Brig Al Shamsi called on car drivers to be more careful when driving during poor weather conditions.
