Dubai :’Protect Your Mom’, a Breast Cancer  Awareness  programme was conducted on 12th August , 2014 at Infant Mary’s Higher Primary School,  Parampalli, India by Brent Adrial D’Souza, a 7 ½ year old child of Grade 3  of ‘ The Kindergarten Starters’,  Dubai.

As part of the programme, Brent delivered a speech to the children from Grade 1 to 7. In his speech he highlighted how to protect our moms against breast cancer.  Currently, Breast Cancer is one of the  dangerous disease among the women which causes not only death but a loss of a mother to the children. It is a kind of tumor that develops in the person’s breast .The statistical data shows that it kills around  400,000 women around the world every year.

‘Protect Your Mom’ a breast cancer awareness campaign was founded by an eminent Indian lady, Premi Mathew based in Dubai a few years ago.  Now this campaign is moving to many countries. It brings awareness among children to do something for their dear moms. If a self examination of  5 minutes is done monthly by our moms they can help find lumps. If a lump is detected early , an early treatment can be done and can live healthy lives for long. So, what can children of do about this?

Brent, in his speech to the children said,
1)  Ask your mom a simple question ‘ Mom, do you know what is PYM?  If she shows a surprise, explain her that a monthly self examination of just 5 minutes  is all that it takes to detect early lumps.
2) Help your mom in her daily housework. This will give her some free time to take care of her health.
3) Knock the doors of your neighbours and ask ‘ Do you know what is PYM?
4) On ‘ Mother’s Day’ send your mom and neighborhood a card with beat wishes from PYM Breast Cancer Awareness.
5)Make sure she vists her doctor for an yearly check-up.
In connection to this there was a procession by the children led by Brent to bring awareness among them.

The programme was concluded with slogans. Finally, Brent thanked Sr  Irene Rodrigues , the headmistress of the school for giving him an opportunity to carry out the event.  Brent was honored with a bouquet of flowers from the headmistress as mark of appreciation for his efforts.
