Non-stop rain causes havoc at Kalaburagi, Bidar

Kalaburagi: Rain from the past four days has cut off Kalaburagi district from Sedam and Chittapur as Kagina River is overflowing and bridges are submerged. The residents in the area are facing a hard time as rain water is consistently entering houses. Heavy rain has been forecasted for Saturday as well.

According to official sources, bridges at Malakhed of Sedam taluk and Dandoti of Chittapur taluk were flooded after all seven gates of Bennetora Irrigation Project situated in Chittapur taluk were opened and 40,000 cusces of water was released to Kagina River. Over 150 houses were partially damaged in the district and a century-old watch tower situated at Martoor village of Chittapur taluk collapsed causing damage to neighboring houses, informed sources.

Kalaburagi Deputy Commissioner Ujwalkumar Ghosh and SP Shashikumar visited many affected places in the district and supervised rescue operation.
