Kalaburagi student attempted suicide, not ragged by seniors: Probe team

Kalaburagi: The probe team investigating alleged ragging of a dalit nursing student from Kerala in Kalaburagi has stated that the girl had tried to commit suicide and was not ragged by her seniors.

Kalaburagi ragging case: Three students under police custody-1A two-member inquiry committee constituted by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) was formed to probe the alleged ragging of KP Ashwathi hailing from Kerala. Student at Al Qamar College of Nursing in Kalaburagi, Ashwathi had alleged that some of her seniors made her drink toilet cleaning liquid, which resulted in serious internal injuries.

RGUHS Vice-Chancellor Dr KS Ravindranath said, “The committee has submitted its report to the university. According to the report, no ragging incident occurred either at the college or the hostel, as alleged by the student. She attempted to commit suicide due to some family issues. The committee visited the college and hostel and inquired with all those concerned.The committee has pointed out that the girl was admitted to a local hospital first and was later shifted to her hometown in Kerala,” he said.
