A taxi driver in Punjab, Balwinder Singh, was shocked to see the message which read that over Rs 98 billion has been credited in his Jan Dhan account.
If on a random day, your account gets credited with Rs 98 billion, what will be your reaction?
Of course, reading, re-reading the message and counting the number of zeroes is one thing but the first reaction would be that of shock.
This is what happened with a taxi driver from Punjab. In Balwinder Singh’s Jan Dhan account in the State Bank of Patiala, an amount of Rs 98,05,95,12,231 was credited earlier this month.
Confused and shocked, Balwinder, who said his balance is usually around Rs 3,000, went to the bank many times but was given a new passbook without the billion rupee entry, instead of an explanation.
Sandeep Garg, lead bank manager, said that it was a manual error and instead of passing a credit entry of Rs 200, the assistant accounts manager entered the bank’s 11-digit internal Banking General Ledger account number in the amount column, reported HT.
The mistake was noticed the next day and even before Balwinder Singh could celebrate, the transaction was reversed.
