Saving his grandchild is the sole purpose of this Ajja’s life

Mangaluru: The bond between a grandparent and a grandchild is unbelievable for it nurtures both. While the wrinkled hands teach life’s most precious lessons, reliving their own childhood, the young eyes of the grandchildren see the fair called life through those experienced lenses. The two often knit a world for themselves untouched by worries and predicaments.

However, here in Mangaluru lives a grandfather-granddaughter(son’s child) duo that feels less fortunate than the rest.

Parashuram Patil from Ranibennur, Haveri Taluk and his grandchild Pranjali’s world too would have been colourful if a tragedy had not struck them. Despite the two sharing an outstanding bond, the chirpiness, giggles, laughter and pranks are missing from their world.

At a time when Patil and the apple of his eyes should have been busy playing their favourite games, Patil’s hands are either busy taking care of Pranjali or praying for her or very often wiping the tears dampening his own cheeks.

Pranjali is bound to a bed in city’s Wenlock Hospital most of the time. All of five now, Pranjali met with an accident last year when she was travelling with her parents from Harihara to Davangere. The mishap killed Pranjali’s mother and rendered her father immobile. After remaining comatose for about two months, when Pranjali regained her consciousness, her life had changed forever.

A victim of Hemiparesis, she has difficulty in walking. But, this apart, the mishap had wrecked havoc in a big way because it hijacked her happiness and changed her definition of family.

Unaware of what she has lost, Pranjali now makes attempts to walk firmly at Regional Advance Paediatric Care Center and Patil, a septuagenarian makes sure Pranjali does not discover what she has lost.

Life is not easy for Patil because apart from coping up with the explainable pain he is going through, he has to make sure that treatment of Pranjali goes on swiftly without any glitch. He needs money to ensure that his little angel lives a normal life, but his own economic condition makes him doubt if he can ever see her recover. However, with the hope to see his grandchild living a normal life, Patil a grocer by profession has spent over Rs 12 lakhs for her treatment by selling off whatever little he had and by borrowing money from all quarters.

Pranjali wobbles while she walks and her speaking abilities too have taken a beating due to the mishap. She needs to undergo a surgery to restore her speaking abilities, for which Patil needs to put together Rs three lakhs.

“The child has to undergo subglottic reconstructive surgery under supervision of a specialist. We do not have a specialist at the Wenlock Hospital. The case has been referred to KMC Hospital and we are hoping for the best,” said Dr Rajeshwari Devi, District Medical Officer speaking to www.newskarnataka.com.

Clueless about the means from which he can put together the money, Patil now keeps his fingers crossed so that he finds generous people who could help his grandchild undergo the life-giving surgery.
