Raj B Shetty has, with his self deprecating humor and a magical touch as actor and director in his debut film “Ondu Motteya Kathe”, given his audiences something to cheer about in difficult times. It’s about us, normally abnormal people. It’s about us with our flaws and imperfections. The message is clear – never judge a book by its cover. The message is as old as time, but a hilarious reiteration always help drive it home. Its not about fair and handosme or fair and lovely, its about a beautiful mind, a beautiful heart. The movie is already doing well and is slated to be shown around the world in the coming months!

NK Tv, the web Tv arm of the Spearhead Group and www.newskarnataka.com caught up with Raj Shetty and had a long conversation with this new star on the horizon. Watch the first part of the interview here.

Watch part 1 here:

Janardhana (Raj B Shetty) a bald Kannada lecturer in Mangaluru is eager to get married. He engages a marraige broker who directs him to see prospective brides who all look the other way when they see his egg head! so much so he attempts to find love himself to no avail as he has by now become obsessed with his own looks. Indeed when Sarala (played by Shailashree) actually likes him because he’s a nice guy, all he can see is a fat girl. There are light touches all through the film but the serious message is just below the surface. This transports the film into the classics of Sandalwood. Its not just the looks that matter in the marriage market, the film takes a light dig at the increased value of those who speak or teach english – As Janardhana’s colleagues show by swooning over the new English lecturer, the problem is particularly acute for the Kannada language teacher.

Its a genuinely relateable tale with genuinely relateable people portraying it on screen and Raj takes the cake. A good soundtrack by Midhun Mukundan and good cinematography add to its value proposition.

The film received positive reviews from critics. Deccan Chronicle wrote “Do not miss to watch this tale of an egg. It makes you fall in love, laugh, cry and most of all, it makes you realise the most beautiful aspect of life. Bangalore Mirror wrote “Ondu Motteya Kathe does not follow in the footsteps of such earlier Kannada films though. There is freshness in the approach. From the dialogues to the performances, there is a touch of new thinking. Motte does fall into familiar approaches in the second half. The plot is wrapped in a predictable manner. But with everything handled subtly, it comes across as a pioneering effort.”
