Mysuru: The city of Mysuru is famous for palaces, delicacies, culture, tradition and much more. Even people who retire from their services prefer to stay in this city. The city derives its name from Mahishasur, the demon who used to torment people and with no options available, the people at receiving end sought the help of Chamundeshwari, the goddess of this city. She eventually killed him and to substantiate this incident, there is a temple atop the hill in the city. The Mysuru empire had around 70 large villages in its control, the whole city was developed with a real planning and even today the amenities in terms broad roads, parks and water supply poses a challenge to the smart city project of the 21st century. The city situated at a height of 2,525 feet above sea level is a paradise for many with its ideal climate, amenities, cleanliness and tourist spots which include the KR Sagar dam, Philomena’s church, Zoo and the University campus. The lakes around the city were developed during the kings’ reign and even to this day Karanji lake, Kukkarahalli lake attract huge number of visitors and provide ambience to spend a few quiet moments away from hustle and bustle of the city.
In addition, Mysuru Pak, Mysuru Silk sarees, Mysuru Masala Dosa, Mysuru jasmine (Mallige) and Mysuru betel leaves (Veelayadele) are known all over the world and the city’s name is an integral part of these special items.
Above all, who can forget the Mysuru Dasara which is witnessed by 5-7 lakh people every year and millions worldwide on television.
