Bengaluru: While Pankthi Bheda a practice wherein devotees are seated depending on their castes still continues to exist in several temples across Karnataka state, Chikkellur Siddappaji Temple of Kollegal taluk on Sunday January 15 people will perform a different Seva which is called as Pankti Seva.A unique feature of this Seva would be that temple would invite fellow devotees irrespective of their castes to sit together in a single line to have the ‘non vegetarian’ Prasadam of the Siddappaji temple.
The High Court has given its nod to the district administration to perform the Pankti Seva which was banned for last three years due to allegations of animal slaughter.
The car festival celebrations at the temple lasts for four days during which vegetarian food is served to the devotees in the first three days and on the last day the devotees, who gather in large number, are made to sit together and are served the non vegetarian Prasadam of the Lord Siddappaji. The devotees do not differentiate between themselves assuming they are all equal in front of god.
Right to food: This year several social activists from Bengaluru are attending the Pankti Seva of the temple on Sunday as part of their fight against the imposition of food culture on the oppressed classes.
