A youth icon for all film goers, Rupesh Shetty has stolen the limelight by his amazing performance in the debut film ‘ICE CREAM’. His performance has given him much acclaimed ‘TIMES Of KUDLA’ award.
Rupesh, the coastalwood star began his journey as an anchor, then rolled over to become well liked Radio Jockey (RJ). He gained fame in short time and there was a sudden surge in fan flowing for this handsome Tuluva boy in Dakshina Kannada. With eyes set on horizon, Rupesh Shetty spoke his heart out to Arjun Lewis of newskarnataka.com and here are the excerpts.

Your thoughts on winning best actor award for your debut film ICE CREAM?

Right now I am on cloud nine! Extremely happy. Not long ago I used to watch renowned actors bagging performance awards and when I experience what I dreamt, I ran out of words.

You took a big leap from being an RJ to becoming an actor. What makes it all the more interesting is that you do not even have a God Father. How did this happen?

Unbelievable but true! I never thought I would make it to this stage on my own.

Hard work coupled with a little fortune, laced with blessings from my other helped me reach where I am.

Now, from here you are marching to Sandalwood. What are your feelings?

It’s an opportunity that only a few get. God has blessed me abundantly and new opportunities always bring in more responsibilities. Film DANGER ZONE, my debut Kannada film will hit the big screen in September and I am excited about it.

You already have a fan following? What do they expect from you and what is in store for them?

I do not deserve to be placed in that league of someone having fan following right now. I consider all those who like me as my real supporters. I have plans to act in a belly bursting comedy tulu film (laughs and continues to laugh).

What kind of roles do you like?

I like roles which make one laugh his heart out, I mean hilarious comedy. Challenging roles excite me too. I have risen from the dust experiencing all kinds of difficulties. Hiding my own pain I used to make others laugh. It’s a unique god given gift which keeps me always happy.

Future plans / projects?

Right now, GOALMAL BROTHERS, a comedy Kannada film is in the pipeline. In addition a new production house is in dialogue to create Rangitharanga type film, though very different in nature.

Can you describe ‘Rupesh’ for all those who like to know more about him?

Strict, committed and disciplined. My wish is not to hurt anyone in my life and remain a simple human being irrespective of the position I reach or remain in.

Your views on Tulu film industry?

It’s in nascent stage of growth. It has to grow more. Tulu speaking people do support us but for the industry to grow collective efforts are required.

What are the suggestions you would like to give to new entrants in filmdom?

Avail opportunities which come your way. Do not worry about success. Put in 200% instead of 100% because success is always associated to hardwork.
