New Delhi: CBFC commonly known as Censor Board have said they will not allow the big-screen adaptation of erotic novel “Fifty Shades of Grey” to be released in India.
The chief executive of the Central Board of Film Certification, Shravan Kumar, declined to say why the panel refused to approve the film adaptation, but said Universal Pictures, the Comcast Corp is free to appeal against this decision.
Countries like Malayasia, Indonesia and Kenya have already banned the movie and now India has joined the list. The movie is an adaptation of the best selling book by the same name published in 2011. The movie is unlikely to be released in China too, which is known for its strict censor laws. According to Reuters report, Censor Board had raised objection about some of the dialogues in this movie even after all scenes depicting nudity were removed voluntarily.
Universal Studio is already mulling to appeal against the ban.
Indian Censor Board has attracted lot of criticism in the recent times. The most recent case was board making a list of banned word which can’t be used by film-makers.
