Dharwad: The members of the district unit of Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI- Communist) held protest in Dharwad on Friday, responding to the nationwide call given by its central committee against the undemocratic implementation of GST tax policy.
The members who held protest at Vivekananda circle here raised slogans against the Centre which they said was implementing the new tax policy in haste, without bothering to know the impact on the lives of the poor.
SUCI District Committee member Gangadhar Badiger while addressing protesters said, “Modi government’s move to implement the anti-people tax policy is undemocratic. While direct taxes are levied on common people, industrialists are left to escape from this. The prices of essential commodities will skyrocket impacting the lives of the people.”
The so called uniform tax policy would cut down the revenue of respective states, forcing them to depend on Central funds all the time, he lamented adding that people should fight united against such acts.
Another district committee member H G Desai who presided over said the present NDA government which in the past opposed GST was now hellbent on implementing it. People should form a campaign against this act of the Centre, he added.
SUCI members Bhuvana, Deepa, Sharanu Gonawar among others were present.
