Dharwad: District Principal and Sessions Judge V Shreeshanand has said the male/female sex ratio in the district is satisfactory, as per the survey held in 2011 the it stands at male 1000:female 971 which is much better than the female ratio of 949 per 1000 males recorded in 2001 survey.

Speaking after inaugurating a workshop on “Regulation and Prevention of Misuse of Pre-natal Sex determination and Female Foeticide Act” here on Saturday, the judge said the women are in no way responsible for the male or female child taking birth, but it is the presence of chromosomes in male which determines the sex of child. Hence men should keep this in mind to avoid misconceptions in their family. Both men and women have equal rights to live on this planet, he added.

Though the scanning machine was founded to know the growth of a baby in the womb but it is being misused leading to female foeticide, he lamented.

He lauded the efforts of the district administration, health department and Anganwadi workers in creating awareness on maintaining sex ratio, protecting women and children’s health.

State Legal Services Authority member Prafulla Nayak stressed on safeguarding women’s interest.

District Health Office Dr. R M Doddamani presided over. Dr. V D Karpurmath and others were present. Judge S S Ballolli, Dharwad Bar Association President V D Kamareddy and others were present.
