Separate ward in District Hospital for treatment of Jail inmates: Dist Judge

Dharwad: Stressing more on the need for regular health check-up of jail inmates, the District Principal and Sessions Judge V Shreeshanand said it was the obligation of the jail authorities to ensure sound health of convicts and undertrials and announced the opening of a special ward in district hospital for this purpose.

Speaking after inaugurating a special health camp for jail inmates at Dharwad Central Jail premises here on Thursday, the district judge said inmates were those persons who were serving the jail term for the offence committed once in their life in haste but all the judges while hearing their cases stress more on their good health. Inmates are eligible for even higher treatment if the need arises, he said.

District Surgeon Dr. Giridhar Kukanur asked inmates to avail all facilities in jail and reform into a new personality filled with love, compassion and hope.

Jail Superintendent P S Ramesh said the hearing of cases through video conferencing had facilitated speedy disposal of number of cases. Jail medical officer Dr. Maruti Hebballi, Senior Assistant Director of Information Department Manjunath Dollin and others were present.
