Restructure Niti Ayog, demands BMS

Dharwad: Hundreds of members of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) staged a protest in both Hubballi and Dharwad against Niti Ayog which was allegedly recommending anti-labour policies to the government.

In Hubballi, the protest was held infront of Mini Vidhana Soudha and in Dharwad near Deputy Commissioner’s office.

Later, memorandum was sent to the prime minister through the district administration.

The protesters alleged that though people had supported BJP in the general election and also during demonetisation but now they were feeling cheated. The Niti Ayog is recommending policies which are detrimental to the working class, they said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi should restructure the Niti Ayog and protect the interests of the working class, they demanded.

They demanded a hike in allowances given to the employees after implementing the seventh pay commission, as per the recommendations of the Central Reforms Committee. They also demanded that privatisation of Indian Railways and new pension scheme should be immediately dropped, the financial aid given from Labour Welfare Board set up at the State-level be remitted to the bank accounts of the employees, the salary and allowance of working class be revised as per the International Labour Policies.

Their other demands included, those pursuing paramedical should be entitled for Rs 10,000 scholarship and the pension for construction labourers should be hiked from Rs 1,000 to Rs 3,000 with immediate effect.

BMS State General Secretary C T Patil, Suresh Nadger, N Prabhu, Raviraj Sagar and others were present.
