Procession, special lecture mark birth celebrations of Ambigara Chowdaiah

Dharwad: Ambigara Chowdaiah, the 12th century Sharana who wrote vachanas to uplift the poor and downtrodden was remembered on the occasion of his Jayanti celebrations held with festive fervour and gaiety here on Saturday.

District administration in association with Gangamata community observed Ambigara Chowdaiah Jayanti. The portrait of 12th century Vachanakara was taken out in procession involving women, folk artistes, on important thoroughfares of the city. District In-charge Minister Vinay Kulkarni launched the Jayanti procession which started from Sunnada Bhatti area at Hosayallapur.

Later at Kalabhavan, NWKRTC Chairman Sadanand Danganavar who inaugurated the Jayanti programme urged the community members to educate their children to ensure a good future for them and their community. He also asked the members to be united to fight for their causes.

NWKRTC Director Manoj Karjagi also spoke. Retired Railway official Y R Gaitiyavar delivered a special lecture on the occasion. ZP CEO R Snehal presided over. Additional DC Ibrahim Maigur, AC Mahesh Karjagi and others were present.
