Hubballi: Karnataka Raitha Sena head Viresh Sobaradmath has begun a hunger strike in Nargund, on the occasion of the second anniversary of the launch of the farmers’ protest seeking resolution to the Mahadayi dispute.

Around 5,000 farmers from the riparian areas of the Mahadayi river took part in the farmers convention held in Nargund of Gadag district. First the farmer leaders garlanded the statue of the Babasaheb Bave, the freedom fighter of Nargund, and then took out a protest rally through the town.

The farmers who were seen waving green shawls, raised slogans against the State and Union governments throughout the procession.

Later, addressing the gathering, Sobaradmath announced the start of his hunger strike as he was fed up with the behavior of the politicians of the State.

He said that along with the parliamentarians of the State, senior leaders like Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Jagadish Shettar, Dharwad MP Pralhad Joshi, the former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and others should use their good offices to ensure early resolution for the Mahadayi dispute.

Farmer leader K. S. Puttannaiah, Tontadarya Mutt seer Tontada Siddhalinga Swami and others were present.
