Dharwad: The members of LIC Agents’ Welfare Association of Dharwad district have opposed imposing of GST and service tax on insurance policies and demanded the rollback of the same.
The agents staged a protest in Dharwad opposing the Centre’s move as unscientific. The protesters who gathered in front of the LIC Division Office branch raised slogans against the union government.
While the Centre is busy implementing new measures to generate more revenue, in the meantime, it is also imposing hefty tax on several social security schemes too, they said.
“The government has tried to bring LIC policies under its ambit while implementing Goods & Service Tax (GST). The government which was imposing service tax on the maturity amount for the last two years, has now proposed to impose GST even on the premiums, which would severely affect policy holders as they have to pay more money”, they .
Demanding to fulfil some other demands, the LIC Agent’s Association would be staging a day’s dharna in front of the Parliament House in New Delhi on August 2, they said.
Association State President S P Sindhagi, Vice President Shankar Kumbi among others took part.
