Dharwad: The two-day Dharwad Zilla 11th Kannada Sahitya Sammelana has passed a resolution urging the government to waive-off the farm loans and uphold farmers’ interest.

Centre declares five districts in state Open Defecation free -1During the valedictory of the literary convention, a total of five resolutions were passed including that on the loan waiver.

Following continued drought in the state for last three seasons, the lives of the farmers have become miserable. Hence, evaluating the problems faced by the farmers, the government should initiate steps to bail them out by waiving off the loans taken by them from the co-operative banks and nationalised banks, the resolution demanded.

The Sammelana has also exerted pressure on the government to solve the vexed Mahadayi water row. Both Congress and the BJP leaders were asked to co-ordinate in formulating concrete plans for convincing Goa government for easy execution of the Kalsa-Banduri Nala work.

To protect the interest of Kannadigas and Kannada, the government should strengthen the Kannada Development Authority. Legislations should be framed to solve problems faced by Kannada speaking people in border areas, Sammelana participants demanded.

The Sammelana has also asked the government to release the pension to the artistes regularly, since the poor and the old ones are depending much on that meagre income, besides providing them medical allowance and incurring medical expenditure of the ailing artises.

The Sammelana also asked government to form a policy making Kannada as a compulsory medium of instruction at primary school level.
