Hubballi: The Janata Dal (S) has planned an agitation in the Malaprabha command area to intensify further the ongoing Mahadayi struggle, while MLA Konaraddy will embark on "village stay" to know farmers problems.
Speaking to reporters here, Navalgund MLA N H Konaraddy said that the "village stay" programme is aimed at organising the villagers and creating awareness among them. The programme will begin from a farmer's house at Kiresur village in Hubballi taluk on May 23.
Following Centre’s failure to intervene in the Mahadayi issue to resolve it through talks, the JD(S) has planned to launch a struggle at taluk, district and state level in a phased manner.
On May 23, a meeting concerning Mahadayi issue would be held at Hubballi to chalk out future course of action in this regard, he said.
He lamented that though resolutions were passed in the Legislative Assembly to seek prime minister's intervention in Mahadayi issue and despite the Mahadayi Tribunal also proposing to resolve the dispute through talks, nothing has been done so far.
He alleged that the BJP leaders had failed in their duty to hold talks with Goa leaders after elections there as assured.
He also said a booklet on the works taken up in his constituency in the last four years would be released at a public function to be held in Navalgund next month.
