Dharwad: There has been a cordial relationship between birds and humans but the greed of humans has slowly and steadily affected the forest, trees and water bodies causing a depletion and also adversely affecting the various bird species, said ornithologist S M Patil.
Addressing the students who took part in bird watching programme organised by Nature Research Centre & Sustained Development Forum at Karnataka University campus here, Patil said an awareness had to be created among people regarding the environment.
People have started understanding that humans can’t survive without birds. Each one of us is responsible to maintain the ecological balance, he noted.
Environmentalist R G Thimapur said there was a need to create an environment which would help in bringing back the common sparrows, which have almost become extinct in urban areas.
More than 150 students participated in the bird watching event. They were guided by Pandith Munji, Vaidehi Gunjal, Pavan Maskin, Hemanth and S B Annigeri.
