Dharwad: The members of the Karnataka State United Hostel Workers Association, under the banner of All India United Trade Union Centre (AITUC) have urged the government to fulfil the demands of workers serving in government hostels since years.
The protesters who held a Jatha from Kalabhavan to Zilla Panchayat office in DC compound on June 22, held a meet wherein the leaders addressed them pressing for their long pending demands.
The protesters said the necessities of hostel workers working in place of vacant ‘D’ group posts in government departments such as Social Welfare, BCM and Minority Departments, were being neglected for years. They charged that they were denied minimum wages, leave, EPF, ESI facilities among others.
They demanded that their payment dues be paid immediately and the revised full wages be credited through e-banking to their accounts along with arrears, documents for payment made to EPF and ESI facilities be provided to them, a list of their pay deductions maintained and ESI cards distributed besides making payment before 5th of every month.
State President K Somashekhar Yadagiri, District President Gangadhar Badiger, and District Secretary Basamma Killeketar among other leaders were present.
A memorandum was submitted to ZP CEO.
