Employing children for work invites legal action: DC Bommanahalli

Dharwad: Employing children of 6 to 14 years of age for hazardous works in industries, hotels among other establishments is against the law, which invites legal action, said Deputy Commissioner S B Bommanahalli.

Speaking at a programme on the occasion of “World Day Against Child Labour” held in Dharwad on June 12, DC said, “Poor families unable to handle their financial problems send their wards for work which is not right. Those children will lose opportunity to study making their future dark. The government has been supporting free education providing facilities like books, uniforms, cycles, hostels facilities among others which must be availed.”

Responsible citizens must take interest and inform helpline no: 1098 about school dropouts and support children’s education, he added.

ZP CEO R Snehal asked public to inform authorities or children’s helpline no: 1098 if they found any child begging at bus stand, market places and so on.

DDPI N H Nagur, Assistant Commissioner of Labour Department Revanna and District Legal Services Authority member B S Sangati also spoke.

Members of Yuvajana Hagu Sanskrutika Abhivridhi Samsthe enacted a play on the ill effects of child labour system on the occasion.
