Dharwad: The private doctors in Dharwad district have demanded the government to come to their rescue, citing the increasing number of attacks on serving doctors.

The doctors under the aegis of IMA took out a silent protest march from Kala Bhavan till DC office and staged a protest seeking action on the members of the public assaulting doctors.

As part of the protest, most of OPDs (out patient department) in the hospitals remained closed on Monday and even Tuesday.

The protesting doctors said they were forced to work in a fearful atmosphere as the attendants and relatives of the patients were attacking them in the course of their duty. Recently, a male doctor at the Civil Hospital was assaulted for no fault of his. Hence government must initiate stern action against the guilty, they demanded.

The government should take up the issue seriously and come up with measures to prevent such incidents, while ensuring security to the doctors serving in government and non-government hospitals, they said.

IMA Dharwad President Subhash Deshpande led the protesters.
