Dharwad: Members of the district unit of Communist Party of India (M) held procession against the Centre for its “anti-people” budget proposals among others, as part of nationwide publicity campaign here on Tuesday.

The campaign was organised to create awareness among people against the alleged anti-people budget proposals, problems that have arisen due to demonetisation, authorities’ negligence towards people’s problems among others.

The procession which started from Kalabhavan passed through prominent thoroughfares of the city and later a public meeting was held at Vivekananda circle. CPI (M) District Secretary B S Soppin, labour leader Mahesh Pattar, K H Patil among others spoke.

The speakers demanded the Centre to withdraw all restrictions for withdrawal of money, waive-off farm loans, to ensure works to unemployed under MNREGS, compensation to those who lost their life and job due to demonetisation, allow normal money transactions at co-operative societies, tax rebate for those small and medium industries which were badly hit due to demonetisation and not to force people for cashless transactions.
