Dharwad: Members of the district unit of Communist Party of India (Marxist) held a protest infront of the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Saturday demanding fulfilment of various demands of farming community, the major being loan waiver, implementation of M S Swaminathan Committee report among others.
The protesters who came in a Jatha gathered at DC office and raised slogans for immediate relief to the problems faced by farmers following drought situation in the region for the fourth year.
Their other demands include waiving off farm loans taken from nationalised banks, fixing profitable price for agri produce as per recommendation of M S Swaminathan Committee report, sanctioning crop insurance compensation to all those farmers who have paid insurance premiums, setting up of separate authority to deal with crop insurance and proper implementation of MNREGA.
Later, a memorandum addressed to the prime minister was submitted to the district administration. CPI-M District Secretary B S Soppin, members Mahesh Pattar, R H Aayi, B I Iliger, B N Pujari and K H Patil, among others were present.
