Waiting to deposit, woman loses money at bank; commits suicide

Chikkaballapura: In a shocking incident, a woman committed suicide on Monday after she lost Rs 15,000 while trying to deposit it at a bank.

Eshwaramma (40), from Chendur village of Gudibande taluk in Chikkaballapura is the deceased. It is not yet clear if Eshwaramma lost the money in transit or someone robbed it when she was standing in the queue.

According to the police, Eshwaramma’s husband Nagappa was an alcoholic and had almost abandoned the family. She was manual labourer who had managed to save Rs 15,000. After being told that the Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes had been demonetised, three days ago, she took the notes to deposit it in the bank at Gudibande, situated around 15 kms from her village. Eshwaramma, while standing in the queue realized that she had lost the money.

It is gathered that, Eshwaramma did not lodge any complaint at the local police station but was crying inconsolably. She was found hanging by her son on Monday morning. Gudibande police have registered a case.
